Comedy, Cerebral Palsy, and Parenthood

I love to laugh.  That makes comedians my jam.  Have you heard of Laurence Clark, the British comedian?  Clark has cerebral palsy and might be the best advocate for turning people’s negative associations for people living with disabilities on their head that I’ve seen yet.  My favorite clip from his website is the Charity Collection Sketch here.

Laurence getting good reviews!

Before you click the video!  Clark doesn’t have Chris Rock levels of profanity, and the sketch below is pretty clean, BUT there are swear words in many of his videos.  If you’re at work and that’s a problem for your shared work environment consider this fair warning.

This past spring Clark and his wife were featured in the BBC 1 documentary entitled “We Won’t Drop the Baby.”  It follows Clark through the birth of his second child and the couple discusses parenting, the public, and attitudes towards disability.  Clark hopes the film will change people’s attitudes about disabled parents.

Check out the rest of Laurence Clark’s brilliant repertoire and blog on his website here.
