Spurned bride donates fairy tale wedding to non-profit

Ah weddings, expensive, beautiful and romantic…but only if the groom sticks around.  For Michelle Marxen it was past the point of refunds when her lover decided to fore-go the act.

So what does one do with all the non-refundable trappings of a fairy tale wedding, complete with ballroom, photography, limo’s, and a much sought-after band?

You donate it.  To a non-profit.  Like a boss.

Michelle is my hero for donating her non-refundable wedding banquet to Creative Care for Reaching Independence.  She decided to not let her wedding cake crumble just because her groom bailed at the last minute.   Instead she’s made it possible for Creative Care to throw a legendary Halloween party for everyone the organization supports.

standing ovationThat is outstanding philanthropy! Brava! Brava!

If I ever get jilted at the alter I hope to have the stones that this woman has. You are a woman of heart, integrity, and serious moxy, Michelle.  Next time I hope you get a groom who is worthy of you.

Michelle will be in Vegas on the night of her planned wedding.  I hope that night looks something like this:

Inclusion System extends our profound respect and immeasurable gratitude to all the ancestors and keepers of the land on whose traditional territories our work takes place. We acknowledge that we are on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional gathering place of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene people and the traditional homeland of the Métis people. This land is sacred, historical, and significant.

Every time we acknowledge this truth, we have an invitation and an opportunity to reflect on the wrongs of the past, what we do in the present, and what we can do to continually honour the people whose lands and water we benefit from today.

This statement only acts as a first step in honouring the land we reside on and its peoples, and must be paired with education, understanding and informed action.
