The fashionista, Diesel and disability
You know what’s cool? Diesel, a prominent fashion brand, is featuring a person with a disability in their international fashion campaign. Know what’s even cooler? It’s not a fundraiser or to bring attention to a specific cause, it’s because this woman has such wicked style! Don’t get me wrong, fundraising and bringing attention to the needs of people living with disabilities is a noble and worthy cause. However, I’m an inclusion junky. People being seen for their talent, not their disability is my numero uno for awesome.
Diesel contracted Jillian Mercado, fashion blogger and curator of Manufactured1987, to appear in their Spring/Summer 2014 International campaign. Doesn’t she look amazing?
If you check out Jillian’s website you can read many interviews she’s given on the fashion industry, disability, and living in New York. Not to mention a few high fashion tips!
Read what Jillian has to say about the campaign. #dieselreboot.

Inclusion System extends our profound respect and immeasurable gratitude to all the ancestors and keepers of the land on whose traditional territories our work takes place. We acknowledge that we are on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional gathering place of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene people and the traditional homeland of the Métis people. This land is sacred, historical, and significant.
Every time we acknowledge this truth, we have an invitation and an opportunity to reflect on the wrongs of the past, what we do in the present, and what we can do to continually honour the people whose lands and water we benefit from today.
This statement only acts as a first step in honouring the land we reside on and its peoples, and must be paired with education, understanding and informed action.
