Leaders Change the World

Last week my twitter feed was exploding with indignation about the U.S. minimum wage hike excluding many persons living with disabilities.  Last Wednesday Obama corrected the oversight.

Recently I read 10 Ways to Improve Your Company’s Diversity Results by Sallie Krawcheck and Stop Fixing Women and Start Fixing Managers in the Harvard Business Review.  Both article’s are geared at helping women overcome barriers in the workplace.  Barring a few tips, if you switch the word woman to disability, most concepts still apply.

The most important thing that influences change in the workplace is your leader.  If a leader actively supports change it is very likely to be embraced by others.  Obama was persuaded last week.  If we as advocates can persuade the President of the United States to embrace positive change for people living with disabilities, the sky’s the limit!
