Pink Shirt Day & Taking a Stand Against Bullying

As an advocate you’re hyper aware of bullying.  You’ve seen it happen to the people you support.  You’ve heard people use the r-word or seen people make fun of the speech patterns, gait, or physical appearance of a person you support.  I’ve been there and I know you have too.

You tirelessly work to support inclusion and that means standing up to bullies every day.  You mentor, coach, build self-esteem, listen, listen, and then do more listening to the people you support because you know how tough it can be to be different.

Today is pink shirt day.  It’s an opportunity to break the silence that paralyzes many bullying victims.  Wearing pink is a stand against the put downs, violence, and verbal abuse many people face on a day to day basis.

A bully’s strength comes from silence.  I’m proud to wear pink and stand up with you all.

Did you wear pink today?  The Herd is lookin’ pretty in pink.  Share your photo’s on our Facebook page because we’d love to see you in pink.  It brings out your awesomeness.  😀

Inclusion System extends our profound respect and immeasurable gratitude to all the ancestors and keepers of the land on whose traditional territories our work takes place. We acknowledge that we are on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional gathering place of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene people and the traditional homeland of the Métis people. This land is sacred, historical, and significant.

Every time we acknowledge this truth, we have an invitation and an opportunity to reflect on the wrongs of the past, what we do in the present, and what we can do to continually honour the people whose lands and water we benefit from today.

This statement only acts as a first step in honouring the land we reside on and its peoples, and must be paired with education, understanding and informed action.
